Arts and Entertainment - World Asunder SL
- We do recommend you read the story if nothing else!
- This is a summary of the SL at current and a peek of what once was.
- Players who "Don't really play Sci-Fi" can still play here! Check out Javos; they could have been born there and never seen a space ship and use the other players as middle-men to avoid the technology stuff! Think of Javos as the core of the GoT inspired side of things. xD
- Helpful but not necessary to read is the Glossary of WA Terms.
- The woman Sierra is an NPC, though there may be up to 5 pilots like her (30+ conscious years old min).
- For help CREATING a CHARACTER, please click the link.
- Underlined terms in the story are found in the Glossary (and there are terms in the Glossary not found here).
My name is Sierra ... I was born almost half a millennium ago on a planet called Earth. We fucked it up, us humans, and the whole thing blew asunder. In the centuries leading up to that moment, I was one of a fleet of pilots flying Passenger Freighters to a neighboring solar system. A trip that took a little over a quarter century with the use of cryogenics. Each time I made the trip the world was worse than before and the people increasingly desperate for their ticket off. The last trip of mine was full of more scoundrels than educated folk.
Not everyone likes it on Javos because the weather is unpredictable and there are a handful of predatorial species down there that'll eat a human as easily as they'd eat a horse. Star-side you have Raiders and Harbingers. The former aint so bad if you have a good pilot and some kind of defense, but the latter... well they aint called Harbingers for nothing. They bring pestilence, mutilation, cannibalism, destruction and outright damnation wherever they go. Rumor has it they came from a Long-Hauler that wasn't properly equipped for the ride between systems.
Like the Cities of Old, or Koo as some say, Midway Station has the slum-side and the high-side. The Slums are we're you'll find most of the Dock-Merchants and Commoner goods for barter or Trade Coin (TC) which is earned by exchange of labor or services from the various companies. High-Side is where you'll find most of the Lords and Ladies. A mix of Merchant-Lords who oversee the Dock-Merchants, Harvest-Lords (among the most well respected), Industry-Lords who give us fuel and constructed supplies like metals and machinery, Estate-Lords and of course all of their families!
Under the collective employ of the Over-Lords are Javos Solution Services (JSS) which handle raiders and the housing and management of the penal colony known as Blackrock. Javos Solution Services are sometimes called Jissy in a slang or derogatory fashion. Snuff the rear burners and lite our jump-drive, we got Jissy on our tail! for example. Anyhow... handling the baddies aint all they do. They don't call'em Bounty Hunter's but JSS Collectors are damn near the same thing, just a bit more official-like and usually better equipped. They also handle mediation whenever the various Lord-folk get testy or sloppy about their agreements.. which sometimes makes them a very thin thread between peace and war.
I look back at what seems like an impossibly long life in a collection of nearly forty conscious years and I can't believe it's already 113 WA. There's some three and four generations here that never knew what Earth looked like. Never saw the steel and glass spiked coast-lines and cities in the sky where some spent their entire lives. I'm sure there are stories, maybe some old pictures or flash-screens with stills and mini-motions on them from the past still floating around. At least I hope there is...
Some L'jet ( Last-Gen Earth-Tech: LGET) like crygentics and slip-drives are all but lost because hardly anyone uses them anymore. No apparent need. Common-L'jet like you see on most ships in the space-lanes seems like it wont never die... like a revolver. Aint no pistol more trust worthy. Sure there's new-tech stun-pistols and shit but there's more than one way to corrupt or blow-up an energy-cell inside one from a distance. Those damn Jissy's who use'em hate those of us who have the means to do it and rightly so!
There's supposed to be talk among the Over-Lords this year about more transparency and open trade in the name of progress over profit. Who knows if that'll actually happen or not though... I hope it does personally. I know a lot of No-namer folk hope so too but it's hard to know if any of the Lords or Ladies are listen'n or pay'n us much mind... not when they got'a Utopia like MistHaven Moon to retreat to. I've never been there but I've heard the moon's atmosphere is heavily misted-- hence the name, but something about the special atmospheric layer and filtered light to the mist particles, yadda-yadda... it looks like stars or sparkles in the sky everywhere. All around amid a haze. I heard one mope tell it as a moody sky. He said one day the twinkles of the mist were of fire and the next of sapphire.
Some days I wake think'n it's a strange-strange 'verse we live in but I reckon I think that because I'm of a dying breed. One of a handful of Long-Haulers who got enough juice and tech to skip Midway under JSS long range radar. It's honest work, 'least as far as services for pay go. The Over-Lords and them proper folk don't much like it ... unless it's them we work'n for. As much as things are different from the back-times they're the same. The powerful and wealthy few squeezing the common many for all they got. Some of us wedge ourselves right in the middle. I do it for my own profit, but I knows a few who do it look'n for a weakness to bring the whole thing down.
Just when I think I got this verse figured out... I hears about some'thing I didn't think was possible or probable. Next thing you know we're going to be face'n an alien invasion.
