+ YES you may add/change things like skills, quirks and personality later down the road as you play
your character and they interact with others. You may even go back and add details to the
bio. Your application is the starting point, the beginning concept, we expect the characters to
evolve and change as much as the plots and arcs of the SL do. +
+ BEWARE you CANNOT edit your application post once it's been posted! You can, however, reply to
it and comment on whatever the error/add was. +
+ NO you do not have to read ALL the information before applying. In fact, if you read through
The STORY and skim over the GLOSSARY, you're probably good to go for a basic character.
The Maps/Locations & Things board, however, may have information to help you create a
more in depth character. Depends on what you want to play. Of course it's probably best to also
check out the GUIDELINES just to see if we're the sort of group you want to join. +
+ CATEGORY is how the username is formatted on the MB and a means of ranking the characters.
The definitions of these Categories can be found on the GLOSSARY thread.+
+ CREDITS is a good thread to check out for the SL's inspirations. If you've seen any of them you
could probably pick a general concept character and warp it for here. On the {CREDITS} thread we've
even already linked google searches to the TVshow/Film titles beside the names of said inspirations. +
+ CHARACTER BIO on the application, yes it's probably the hardest part! All we're asking for is 3 or more
paragraphs. Generally start with them being born or as a child and use the bio to explain the skills you
gave them. End your bio with a little bit about what they're currently up to/doing. +
+ QUIRKS are part of what make a character and sometimes a plot interesting. Quirks could be things like
talking too fast, being afraid of heights, being phobic about the color purple, spacing out, hair-trigger temper,
insomniac, highly religious, ritualistic, efficiency complex, OCD, hates guns, is easily turned on, babbles
random facts/information, thinks out loud, is hyper-sensitive to a specific sound, never remembers names,
taps their temple when nervous, doesn't like eye contact, clumsy, has an addiction, has a physical
abnormality, and so on and so forth. Characters may have more than one quirk but please keep in
mind the other players. Also consider how well balance the character is-- unless of course
unbalanced was what you're going for; then by all means, quirk away! +
+ REPUTATION might have you a little unsure and that's cool. Basically this is where you write a
little blurb about what OTHER PEOPLE know and or think about your character. Feel free to
clarify who will know what from the public to the Underside. They are things like, known for her exquisite
bath oils, said to be the fastest gun on Javos, rumored to have a hidden bunker on Hailos, is known
to be manipulative, publicly squeaky clean and honorable, and so on. You may add to it later too. +
+ AGES should be adult 18+ in most cases, though some younger played roles are acceptable. Please
look over the roster for an overview of character ages before applying for a younger character. There
may be some characters who look younger than they actually are for various reasons from alien DNA
to long term cryogenic use in a perspective short period of time (ie. the few pilots left who may be
30-50 conscious years old but actually could be 1,000 years old technically and look even younger
due to the adverse stunting effects of this exposure. The GLOSSARY has more details.)+
+ MAKE SHIT UP, seriously, if you look over the information pages and don't see something like
what you were thinking.. go for it! Worst case scenario we ask you to tweak or change something
when you submit your application. The way the app process works, you'll get to talk your
app out with the players who're voting you in or not. If any of them have a question about
something or think it's too similar to something else or wayyyy to implausible then they will
say so and probably suggest how to make it unique without losing your idea. +
+ BE ORIGINAL respectively. Obviously everyone gets their inspiration from somewhere and if you believe
in a quantum consciousness then it's possible for everyone to think the same thing at the same time.
That aside we mean that you should look over what characters are already in play and or on the
application board before submitting your character. Everyone will get more role play if they play roles
that are symbiotic to others rather than "competing". Of course, we do need polar opposites who
are actually against one another but that's more of a plot thing. We want to encourage unique
concepts and combinations of skills and quirks. +
+ FILL A VOID, we kind of already said this but it's important! Check out WA's Plot Request Thread for
a sneak peak at SL wide, or major plot arcs that are in the air and on the horizon. This also goes for
checking out the Character Request board and the Plot Request boards for ideas on roles that may need
to be filled or that someone is looking for to be filled. Of course we don't mean to discourage you
from playing who/what you want! We're just trying to help cultivate a breeding ground for
group awesomeness, not just singular awesomeness. :-p +
+ more may be added later +
