He's quick to talk, and slow to fight because...well, he just isn't that good at it. Quirks = Mur tends to scratch the back of his neck when nervous, and thumb a worry token when trying to tell a story that isn't necessarily true. Best Skills = Fast-talking, sleight-of-hand, cooking, keeping a light outlook General Skills = Piloting, boxing, shoehorning more stuff into a fridge than should fit. Reputation = Reputation as a bumbler and screw up for his more petty crimes in younger years. Brief Bio (3 or more Paragraphs) = Few remember how Mur ended up on Midway Station, even Mur himself. He was abandoned during a conflict and fell through the cracks in an imperfect security system. Due to the odd set of situations in which he found himself, a six year old Mur ended up as a "vent rat". Someone that scavanged in the vents and trash bins of the Midway Station. Thankfully, it wasn't until he was 14 that he started getting into trouble. It was this path that would lead young Murdock to the life of crime that would have him eyeball deep in trouble before long. At fourteen, Murdock attempted to find work in the occasional odd job aboard a busy station. From packing and unpacking goods to shining shoes to the occasional request to steal for the occasional well-to-do criminal passing through that didn't want his face recognized. Mur found that he wasn't terrible at pickpocketing. For a time, he would begin making use of this to "earn" himself clothing that was a little more presentable than rags. Anything to put a copper coin or two in his pocket was a job he wouldn't turn down. This is not to say Murdock was instantly an expert. Misdirection, hiding, sizing up a target...such skills had to be learned over time. This would lead Murdock to have a record as a trouble-maker. A few nights in a holding cell were spent between jobs when he couldn't escape through the various ducts and tunnels within the Midway Station. Eventually, he was asked by a cellmate if he had ever considered going bigger. "Might not need to steal as often if it were bigger stuff." Well, there was something Murdock hadn't considered. He'd stolen what he needed, not much more. It was the age of nineteen that Murdock decided to steal bigger. The Midway Blackout. Murdock hid away durring the massacre, and left it with a ship left behind by a dead man that would no longer need it. A patchwork H-Class, but who was he to complain about a junker ship no one would miss? Now he could introduce himself as "Captain Murdock". Of course, it also saw him as something of a smuggler...making the best use of the hiding holes a patchwork ship was loaded with. It would just be hoped his past wouldn't keep him from at least seeming like a dependable businessman.

You didn't provide us with a picture of him. I also would like to see a bit more detail/effort into his personality, skills and reputation. If he's an outlaw he's well known and has a reputation with the JSS at least. I like what you have here but I'd like to get a better feel for the character and who might know what about him.

I agree with the above. I see lot's of potential especially with the who knows this guy. He's been alone and causing problems for years. I'd think that he's survived off shop owners who helped him here and there as well as his thieving. Made a few Midway friends. Maybe he had a thief mentor who taught him the ropes of pick pocketing and other lovely thief tasks. Maybe the family is looking for the ship he took cause they thought he killed the guy during the black out and took it. Could be future plot. Sorry, like I said. Has all sorts of potential but would like to see more in the back story. He's a smuggler now? Or was a smuggler and trying to hide his past to look like a dependable businessman? Does that mean his crime life is behind him? Or does he have a legit transportation business and smuggles on the side?

Buahahahaha doorknobs... that's a good one. Thank you for sharing. I like this character idea. I like his name. I wish I could be sure who his picture base is, but I'm not familiar and google wasn't as helpful as I'd like in actually getting a notion of this guy. I suppose, because part of me feels like people choose specific pictures of PBs to represent the feel of the character they envision. It might seem like a silly details, but it's one I look forward to. I even tried to copy the image URL and open in a new window but the pathway is forbidden. Find another? Rehost and relink? As for the app itself, I do have some questions. 1) Where/when/how did he learn to pilot? It wasn't mentioned before he stole the ship after the blackout... 2) Boxing like in-the-ring boxing, or like street fighting? 3) If he had a record for being a trouble maker, how did he save himself from being offed by a disgruntled badguy or overzealous station security officer? 4) Does he still have the same ship? (did he rename it, recode it and if so, does he know that stuff himself or did he get someone's help?)

I thought about using WAanonymous to comment on this application but I want to be forthcoming. I read this application and a few things glare. You read up on Midway, this pleases me. We like when players take that effort before applying. What you wrote about your character seemed a little slopped together to me. What I do not know is if you wrote the bare minimum we might accept because you have not given this character that much thought? Or because you hate applications? Because you believe public character bio sheets and public applications equals cross role play?
I think these all as valid thoughts and deterrents to writing more to give us a feel for your character. I would appreciate knowing your point of view on this as well as the questions asked by Tu.
Good questions Tu.

I figured I should address some of the questions related to my application, as well as give the expanded information asked for. First and formost being the shortness and vagueness of it. I could have given one with more detail, but would have required me to create several NPCs and use them to explain aspects of the character. To be fair, I did not consider this to be my place to do. With the responses I have been given, it seems like I might have opted in the wrong direction, so...here we go. Putting the first detail first, the reason for his gaining of skills came at the amount of jail time considered acceptable for a child likely between the age of ten and thirteen when he was doing basic pickpocketing. As he got older, he got better, however a law enforcement offical named Matley Stewart made the best attempts to put Murdock back on the straight and narrow, letting him off with warnings when he could get away with looking the other way. Murdock tries not to push this tie too far, and as of yet, it's getting closer than otherwise. Matley may or may not know about some of the contacts Murdock developed within the Underside, but denial from a surigate father figure goes farther than it should most times. The original owner of his ship was a muscle for hire named Sa'hanos Giffrey, or "Giffery the Gutter" for his enjoyment of stabbing men to death over guns or blunt trauma. Giffrey got a taste of his own medicine during the blackout by one of the organized crime family members that felt he had done them wrong by killing a friend. Given the ensuing coverup to protect the assassin and those who commissioned the kill, most of the data on the ship was left blank and it was considered non-existant ask records were erased in the chaos after the blackout. This made it easy for Murdock to pay for the ship to be placed in his name instead of having to pay for it. The ship's name, "The Razor" has been altered to give Murdock a lower profile. The current name is "Honeybunch"...Murdock thought it'd be funny as hell. As for the record he has with bad guys...well, his record isn't extensive or damning enough for a bullet. More often than not, it's something small enough to make him "prove himelf" by pro bono work to put himself back in good standing, and Murdock considers this just the cost of doing business. The higher ups in the crime world simply consider Murdock to be too low on the totum pole to be worth a bullet, at least for the time being. Also this pertains to his ability to fight, which is "Boxing" only in the sense that he uses his hands and can, on occasion, get his forarms up in time to block a hit to the face. He can take a beating better than he can dish one out, and has no problem at all running away if the fight looks like something he couldn't hope to win. Learning to pilot game from a user friendly interface, things like pilot friends, and growing up on the docks area. He's not a great pilot, and will never be credited with using a ship to outrun, outmanuver, or give another ship the slip. The best he can do is get a ship from A to B without crashing, which is why it is a lesser skill and not primary. He would LOVE to get a real pilot, but given he is still kind of scraping by, it'll be a time before he'd be able to swing anything like a crew. Lastly, the website and message board cause my laptop to bog down horribly. It took me a considerable amount of time to get that initial application in. Since then I have tried to re-post for it three times and the time it took and amount typed locked up my computer and forced it to be rebooted each time. This was typed up in a Word file, then copy and pasted to actually get it finished. I do not "hate filling out applications"... but, in truth, filling out an application to be mailed into a series of email addresses would be a bit more convinient for those of us with computers nearly a decade old. P.S., I was instructed on how to add the picture correctly, and so this will include the requested picture of Murdock.

I wish I would have known you had to go through that much trouble to apply and reply. I wouldn't have recommended this SL for you or you for it to be frank. No player should have to go through all that to play here.
I'm working on our Freaky Friday event and by the sounds of it, you wont be able to participate in it because it requires you to be able to navigate through threads on the board like a map... Not unless some one was willing to be a proxy for you, be the middle person to send you info via email which would be a lot of work in the same way it's a lot of work for you to access and try to use our board.
I'm not sure what to do about this so I'm asking the other players... do we try to find a way to accommodate those who can't easily access the board or ...?

I first thank you for the added information, it was very helpful. I would vote yes on this application but your computer situation is concerning. I would hate for us to be the SL that cuts players because their computer is worthless but we do use this board for a lot. You would need a proxy as Rem suggested, just to play in one of the pre-planned SL events would you not?
I cannot as we all know. I do not think Rem should either even if she is thinking about it. That is too much for one player to carry (she already does a lot of board and plot management.)
So, I will vote yes if someone is willing to be your proxy and help to email you information and write posts or threads on the board on your behalf. Or, if you manage to clean up your old computer enough to use the board more easily. That is my stance.

I have a friend who is similarly troubled in the opposite direction. He has no trouble with the boards but he can't seem to access the AOL chats with his IP address. He's working on it, but it likewise makes play difficult since we use both about equally. I don't mean to be a jerk, but I have to be honest when I admit I -for one- wont help. It's not that I don't want to, I'm all about helping, but when the game becomes too much like work for me, I lose interest and then I wont be here at all. I got too many other things I'm helping with on the MB and SL in general to add on being a middleman during a story-plot.
That said, I like this application. I like the character concept and while some of the details make me wrinkle my nose, it's personal preference and not anything I think that hinders the SL. I'm ready to welcome you, if you're ready to keep muscling through the incompatibility between your computer and this MB and/or someone(else) is willing to help relay info to you...

No reply from him, I'm moving this to the Declined section. Hey may reapply at another time if he wishes, though the concern would against still be access to the board for communications and stuff.
