Age = 38 Status = Single Height = 6'2" Weight = 200 lbs Eye Color = Brown Hair Color = Black General Demeanor/Personality = Emotionless. Observant. Angered. Ruthless. Good sense of humor. Playful almost. Controlling. Vengeful. Cunninig. Sociopath. Best Skills = Reading people. Talking and causing fear. He's also well versed in hand to hand combat, though he attempts to not find himself in the situation where he has to use those skills. General Skills = He has no use for them anymore, but picking pockets and slight of hand as well as acting. He need those skills more in his younger years to help with his survival. Reputation = Alistair had only been the Count of Midway for a short period of time, but he was merciless in his ruling and swift to dole out punishment when it was needed. He'd attempt fear first, hoping that he would be abe to stay his hand most of the time. He was also shrewd in his business dealings, keeping is own coffers filled as well as his boss' and those who played by his rules. Brief Bio (3 or more Paragraphs) = Alistair's life started not unlike a lot of others aboard Midway. He was born to a drug addicted mother and the man who used her in payment for said drugs. His mother mother and her boyfriend raised the boy for the first ten years of his life on the commoners decks of the station. His childhood consisted of friends, schooling, breaking his "parents" apart when they fought and taking care of his mother when she found herself too drugged out to do it herself. The only solace the boy had was when he was by himself, practicing his "magic" that he'd discovered on mini-motions. They'd been found in his mothers closet, packed away from the light of day. Unfortunately for Alistair, his mother and her boyfriend eventually come to the conclusion that he was too much of a burden on them and their life-style. So one day, in the wee hours of the "morning", Alistair was fed one of his mother's favorite chemical drugs. A tiny pill, pinkish in color was shoved down his throat and he was left by himself until the drug kicked in. High and unable to defend himself, Alistair was carried inside a trash receptical from the commoners decks to the Underside and unceremoniously dumped outside of his true father's residence. Little did Alistair know that he would soon come face to face with The Count of Midway, and his father. Obviously this knowledge would not have done either of them well at the time, so The Count simply pushed him off into one of the numerous orphan gangs calling the Underside their home. Of course The Count made sure Alistair was as healthy as he could be, but other than that, the man took no part in Alistair's childhood. As he grew into a teen, Alistair began using that talent of slight of hand that he'd taught himself to start making his own living, and caring for the younger children within his group. As of yet, he'd never thought about being anything other than he was. However, on one particular "mission" for his little group, Alistair found himself rummaging through a commoners room, looking for anything he might be able to barter for trade coins when he came across a suitcase shuffed deep inside of a bedroom closet. Upon opening it, he found something that would forever change his life. Settle inside and folded neatly were seven complete suits, and their matching shoes. It seemed so unassuming at the time, but Alistair found himself enamored by them. Why? That was anyone's guess, but after returning to the Underside, Alistair refused to trade them, sell them, or even allow the others to look at them. They were his, and in private he found they would not fit...but someday... Fastforward fifteen years and Alistair found himself as a well established thief within the Counts fold. He was trusted, and that was perhaps a huge mistake for the man. Alistair still held the grudge from his childhood and knew he'd never be able to shake it. It wasn't took much longer until he approached by a woman with the name "BlackDeath". In the future he would come to know her true name, but at the time he didn't ask. All he was concerned with were her plans for this blackout and the mayham she was looking to cause during it. Without much thinking, he'd agree to help...on the condition once the job was done, he was given the positon Count of Midway. Alistair's part in the whole plan was rather small, but important none the less. He was to set up a meeting with his father and the High-Count. It was an interesting feat, but one he fought hard to accomplish. After sending word to his father that he'd found something that he, as well as the High-Count should see, a location was selected and in secret he got that location to "BlackDeath". His part over, Alistair merely waited for the black out. On that particular day, just before the lights went out, Alistair was standing in front of a broken mirror, cracked and jagged around the edges but still useful. He'd been getting dressed, those shiny new shoes and those fancy suits finally fitting about his form. In actuality, they had fit for years now...but he had no use for them until now. He'd just finished slipping on a grey blazer over a dark black button up as it all went dark. While the sound of death and destrustion surrounded his little room, Alistair only smiled. He was ready to reinvent himself. [/p]

Because I promised I would lay out all my likes when you applied. xDDD
- Love the SN Bourbon Freedom xD
- Am I uncool for having no idea what the Time Famous Video Game Magazine thing is? But winning the jacket sounds cool!
- I like that he has hand-to-hand combat as a best skill but tries to avoid those situations (though that's what the Underboss is for anyway right? )
- I think it's cool he's the kind of Boss who pays the weath to his loyalists, very appropriate for how I imagined the Underside too!
- Love the twist about the Count of Midway pre Blackout was his father... and I imagine his mom was a fox who had an expensive taste if the Count was dealing her drugs, which would also explain why Alistair is a fox. lol
- I also thought it was cool that he fancied some mini-motions and found the suits which he kept until he had a use for them. Kid that was determined to be someone!
Now for the other stuff!
You didn't list any quirks, does he not have them or did you accidentally take that part out while filling out the app?

Thanks for letting me know your likes! And I noticed I wasn't too clear about the magazine thing...lol. It was a contest held by GamePro magazine when I was like...17? All the editors called me and told me I won.
As for their business relationship...Well, he likes her. In the..."She can get shit done that I can't or won't do" kind of way. Publicly polite and privately argumentative. Not an "I'll kill you" sort of arguments, but both willing to speak freely without fear of repercussions.
Now...outside of the Underside...They both mutually use one another for their own benefit, whether it has to do with business or not. So I suppose it would be more like...polite friends, with the potential for the relationship to go south depending on the situation. I hope that makes sense.

Er...as for quirks...he doesn't have any just yet. I'd like to get to play him a little before I add that. I can only come up with so much without putting him into action.

What was embroidered on it? -curious- And were you trying to win?
Was that awesome because he was the only survivor, or because it was just awesome RP that culminated with him being the only survivor? (i.e. an epic story actually played out)?
Good history too! I got a chuckle about his contradictory personality traits but I like how you included his skills as an actor even though he doesn't use them actively. It probably DID do a number on making him a deep guy who can show what he wants.
So, question: Any idea/notion/clue whose the suits were and why they were folded in a suitcase? (not the usual place one keeps a nice suit...) were there any special things sewn in the lining or messages in the pockets or anything like that?
Question: Let's say...a couple of underside-dealers get into a fight that spreads through the underside of Midway, wrecking shops and getting by-standards hurt... how does the Count react?
aaaand Question: Does he mingle with the people of the underside or the upper decks at all? (both, neither, depends? Explain? lol)
Thanks for putting up an application!

In the interest of helping to get your feet wet, how about A writing prompt!
As a reminder, other than being the black market, The Underside handles the back-end operations of Midway station, the dirty grunt work like keeping the filtration systems running and the thrusters online so the station can adjust as needed. Keeping the water lines flowing and filtering etc.

Rem mentioned someone applying for the Count of Midway! Thank you for taking the time to fill out our application! I hope you enjoy the application process we have here and good luck!
I have a few questions:
Would you consider Alistair informed enough about what is going on in the Underside to know that Lady Lillian OzGud of the Founding Family is "Lethal Lullaby," which is not common knowledge?
Lady Lillian, the Maiden of Midway, knows just about everything that happens on Midway Station. In his 6 year reign as Count of the Midway Underside can you think of any whispers or tellings she might have heard about him that you have not included?
I look forward to reading all of your answers Greg! Once more, thank you for applying!

What was embroidered on it? -curious- And were you trying to win?
My last name on the front, with the year and the contest name. On the back it had "Game Pro". I never actually wore the thing, but I was trying to win it. Was that awesome because he was the only survivor, or because it was just awesome RP that culminated with him being the only survivor? (i.e. an epic story actually played out)?
I think it was awesome because of the story unfolding and the fact that dice were involved, and although I didn't have the highest dice I could, I still survived.
So, question: Any idea/notion/clue whose the suits were and why they were folded in a suitcase? (not the usual place one keeps a nice suit...) were there any special things sewn in the lining or messages in the pockets or anything like that?
Nothing special was found within them. And I see the suits being folded in the suitcase for space issues really. It was just something someone brought with them and probably passed down to their children. They may have been suits, but they were made on Earth, and that made them special to someone.
Question: Let's say...a couple of underside-dealers get into a fight that spreads through the underside of Midway, wrecking shops and getting by-standards hurt... how does the Count react?
In private, angry to no end...probably so much so he'd hurt someone. Publicly...now, depending on if the offenders were loyal to him or not, he could act differently. Say they were...he'd dispatch a crew he has ready for situations such as these and bring the offenders in. They'd be offered a warning as well as a chance to pay reperations if you will. Alistair only gives one warning, if he gives one at all. Say they were not loyalists...well...if they could be brought in...he'd get the reperations before dealing with them swiftly, whether it be death, a hand gone, a finger, ect.
aaaand Question: Does he mingle with the people of the underside or the upper decks at all? (both, neither, depends? Explain? lol) He would mingle with both, though he'd prefer spending his time in the High-side if he could. Years spent in the Underside have him a bit jaded. He enjoys his power, and would never give it up willingly, but he does enjoy the fruits of his underlings labor. It affords him the opportunity to mingle with the richer people...never know when you might find a new contact. And those with wealth are usually too proper to go about nefarious things by themselves.
Thanks for putting up an appli

Okay...so my connection sucks enough that I can't edit my posts how I want, so I'm going to try answering this way...
Alistair would know Zachariah, at least in name. He may have not yet met the man, but he wouldn't expect it to be long before he did.
He may not know that Lillian is "Lethal", but he would have heard rumors. He'd suspect as much, considering his mingling with the high society. The only thing she may have heard about it that isn't posted is that if you have the wealth, and need something, he was the man to get in touch with...drugs, killings, smuggling, ect. He knew how to get it, or where to get it.
Alistair offered a yawn which he stiffled with a lifted hand. How long had he been up? Thirty-five? Fourty-eight hours? Without a normal orbit and seeing something that proved day was day and night was night, he never really knew. All he knew is that he was tired...but the normal shift change in the Underside was about to start, which meant his men were about to be busy. There was no rest for the wicked, as it were. As always, two times within a twenty-four hour span, all of the hubs and fronts he looked over found themselves flooded with patrons, whether it be those just getting off and in need of a relaxing fix, or those looking to clock in and needing that extra edge. It was never a dull moment for the Count, yet he could only be in so many places at once. Having faith in Niema, once the air quality situation was taken care of, she was tasked with taking inventory when it came to the slaves...height, weight, age, sex, race...all of it. It needed to be recorded for future use. Alistair himself was still settled behind his operations desk. A desk nestled in the corner of one of the larger rooms in the Underside. It had power, fans, and even cool air. See what money could buy you? Standing at the door on the inside was one guard, and outside...two. Of course scattered across the hall outside were numerous men tasked with simply being there, just in case Niema got anymore crazy plans in that pretty but insane head of hers. He was currently reading over a message given to him by a runner...There was a fight tonight it seemed, featuring this..."Lethal Lullaby". Alistair was well aware of this woman and who she might actually be, though he had no solid proof. It was a habit of his to place bets on the fights, hence the message, and today was nothing out of the ordinary. A runner would be sent to the fighting pits, a purse full of trade coins. "You know what happens if I find out you never placed my bet, yes?" He'd offer the child before patting him on the head and sending him off. The warning was given, and it was not to be taken lightly. Leaning back in his chair, it offered a little squeak and he sighed just as the first rap at his door was heard. There was one knock, a pause, then two quicker ones. Code...Alistair motioned for his guard to open the door and the first of a line of runners entered, papers in his hand. "S-sir..I mean...'Count'...here are the first numbers." They were given to the guard, who took them and approached the desk, setting them down and taking his place once more. The child runner bowed slightly and took off like a shot. This Underside was a business after all, and Alistair wanted to know exactly what was selling, when and how much...He liked being kept in the loop and in control. After looking it over a moment, Alistair placed the document into a pullout drawer before motioning for the next runner to enter. This would take place for the next hour or so...Again, no rest for the wicked.

Are the people in the group he keeps on retainer miscellaneous specialists or more a police force?
Are his "papers" actual paper or technology based data sheets of some kind? I sense he likes things from old.

I would like to think that when on the upper decks, Alistair attempts to keep a low profile. It would do him no good to openly tell people he controls the Underside the way he does.
I think the group he has is more like a police force. He takes care of them for their services as long as they continue to be loyal. He does like older things. It helps him stay in touch with the roots of their race. And it was paper, numbers quickly scribbled down. Paper is easier to get rid of than something dealing with technology, so it makes more sense for his line of work regardless.
